In 2010 the total population of men and women in the United States over the age of 18 according to the U.S. Census Bureau was 234,564,000 million. There were 33,748,000 million males that were never married compared to 27,792,000 women in that same category. The implications are that about 5,956,000 single males that have never married out-numbers a one-for-one match within the 18 and over age group. The question for single males in this residual group is locating the eligible dating female population. This inquiry may be answered by the differences in the number of residual women that are widowed or divorced.
There are 8,396,000 more widows in the category than men in the same group along with 3,782,000 more female divorced women than men. The implications are that 12,178,000 females are available for dating for the remaining 5,956,000 single men that have never married. This data is a plausible reason for the rise in December-May Romances where the female is older than her younger male partner. The implications are that the Cougars are older women seeking younger men have very limited choices when it comes to finding a partner within her own age group.
The accompanying characteristics would imply that the woman would be older, and have a better perspective on the requirements for a sustainable relationship. These women will more than likely have children and therefore the younger male partner would probably have to be older than them, yet younger the female. An example would be a 45 year-old divorced mother of teenagers dating a man in his late twenties through his late thirties. However, in regards to seeking a man to fulfill womanly needs, the mature female may go younger and therefore not involve her children in respect to introducing him to them. Women pursuing a relationship of substance with a man more than five years her junior may find difficulty. Factors such as age, social appreciation, values, and even sexual activities could become a challenge.
Both the younger man and older woman would be wise to avoid the temptation of love conquering all as the solution for these small problems that will eventually mature into deal-breakers. Many mature women getting involved in these relationships must consider the reality of her partner's potential immaturity and need to pursue a relationship in his age-group that may be more socially suitable.
